Category: Procedural modeling

Procedural modeling is the process of writing in code the rules that describe a certain phenomenon or process, and letting the computer take care of the repetitive task of generating the resulting geometry. This makes it very suitable, for example, for the generation of city-like environments, which would otherwise be too complex and cumbersome to model by hand. What makes procedural modeling exciting in my eyes, is the moments of surprise and discovery, when the computer generates an unanticipated form, that goes beyond what I originally had in mind. The projects in this category make use of procedural modeling for the design of urban habitats.
