It is made of 26 articulated panels, combined into a structure that\u2019s six metres high and four metres wide.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ETH Zurich casts intricate metal facade in a 3D-printed mould\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U8_0Rb2zRhE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The focus of our design was on highlighting the special material properties of metal: liquidity and strength, as well as taking advantage of the possibilities that are afforded by the 3d printing technique: differentiation and geometrical complexity \u2018for free\u2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The design is based on creating surface from a line which coils and makes loops in an almost fractal, non repetitive way, never intersecting with itself, but sometimes touch- ing tangentially. After the generation of the line using a differential growth algorithm, its profile is created. It is also variable, starting from an extrusion of the line which changes direction, thickness and shape based on rules and fabrication constraints, to create a rich visual result that captures the
